The month of September not only marks the beginning of another school year; it is also the time for accounting recruitment. Accounting firms look for interested individuals who show talent and interest in accounting. Firms, from small-sized to the Big Four, organise different events in all the universities in Quebec. Such events, including firm tours and seminars, will enable the recruiters to meet interested students and to provide information about their firm and the field. In turn, students who attend these events will be more visible to firm representatives, have their questions answered, and learn more about each firm’s corporate culture.
U2 and U3 McGill students, who are seeking summer internships and permanent employment respectively, are encouraged to attend as many firm tours and seminars as possible. Also, the MAS Cocktail is an important event that enables students to use their networking skills and to meet recruiters from different firms. All hopefuls must remember to follow the appropriate dress code in order to leave the right kind of impression. It is also important to prepare the CACEE form, which is the standard application form, ahead of time to meet the deadline, and to ensure that that all pertinent information about your skills and interests is expressed via your application. Finally, do not forget to prepare for interviews. If you have any questions or inquiries, do not hesitate to ask help from your career advisors and the MAS committee.
